Do Canadian internet providers block IPTV?
Why do Canadian internet providers block some IPTV services?
Because broadcasters and film studios ask the Federal Court to make them. The court names the internet providers that must carry out the order, and they block the domain names and IP addresses it lists. The providers are not accused of anything themselves.

Which internet providers block IPTV services?
The large ones, and each order lists them by name. The GoldTV order named Bell, Cogeco, Distributel, Eastlink, Fido, Rogers, SaskTel, Shaw, TekSavvy, TELUS and Vidéotron. The July 2026 order, according to published reports, names Bell, Cogeco, Eastlink, Rogers, SaskTel, TekSavvy, TELUS and Vidéotron, and applies at least to their home internet customers.
So yes, Cogeco has been named, like the other major providers. Orders are not limited to one city: they apply to the named providers' customers across Canada, so Toronto is covered the same way as the rest of the country. Smaller brands, including some owned by the large providers, are not always named separately: the wording of each order decides who must block. Rogers publishes a notice about the sports order on its website.
What does a block mean for viewers?
- The service stops loading, or a live game cuts out once a dynamic block starts.
- It is not a fault with your internet, and a block is not a notice or a lawsuit against you.
- Prepaid money can be lost if a blocked service stops working for good, which is one reason to avoid long prepaid plans with any seller you do not know.

Is IPTV blocked in Canada?
No, not as a technology. Licensed IPTV services such as Bell Fibe TV and TELUS Optik TV, and player apps such as TiviMate, work normally on Canadian internet connections. What gets blocked are specific services and servers named in Federal Court orders, after broadcasters showed the court that they were streaming content without permission.
Why do some channels stop only during live games?
That pattern matches how dynamic blocking orders work: servers streaming certain live sports are blocked while the event is on, then unblocked afterward. Busy servers during big games can cause similar drops. Either way, it is not a problem with your TV, your app settings or your internet plan.
