Which IPTV has the most channels, and does that matter?

Why are IPTV channel counts so high?

Because one channel can be counted many times. A list with thousands of entries holds far fewer different stations, for a few reasons:

• Quality versions. The same channel can appear in SD, HD, Full HD and 4K, and each copy counts as a channel.
• Backup streams. Busy channels often have a second or third copy, ready if the first one struggles.
• Regional feeds. Some channels send an East feed and a West feed a few hours apart, and network stations come in a version for each city.
• Event channels. Some lists include channels that only carry a picture during a scheduled game or event, and sit empty the rest of the time.

There is no shared rule for counting, so comparing two providers' totals tells you very little. Like most services, our own 25,000+ count includes HD and backup versions of some channels.

Is a bigger channel list better?

Only up to a point. After the channels you actually watch are covered, extra entries mostly add scrolling. A very long list also takes longer to load, and on older devices such as some MAG boxes, or in a basic player like VLC, the menus can feel slow.
